For a holistic approach to IVF treatment, the following alternative modalities and exercises could be considered for incorporating into your care plan.

Chiropractor or Osteopath Treatment

Something to consider if you’ve been in any car accidents in the past, have been overweight and lost weight for IVF, or have any kind of postural concerns (these days many people have ‘tech necks’ from too much screen time!). By getting some adjustments, you are aligning your whole spine so that your central spinal cord isn’t impacted in any way and allows for optimal flow of nutrients and nervous system functions throughout your body.

Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine

Based on philosophies of Traditional Chinese Medicine, you could work together with an Acupuncturist and Naturopath or Nutritionist to enhance your body’s success with IVF treatment. I can design a personalised meal plan based on Traditional Chinese Medicine dietetics, if you’ve been advised particular dietary advice by a TCM practitioner. (I have many home recipes to share too!)

Traditional Chinese Medicine could assess energies in the body, eg. temperature “heating” or “cooling” which is relevant to the intervention of IVF treatment, often referred to as a “heat” or hot intervention according to TCM. The dietary advice is usually also based on constitutional assessment of the individual, in support with IVF treatment.

Yoga & Pilates

Ensuring you inform your instructor that you are undergoing IVF treatment, yoga and pilates can be very safe, gentle and supportive exercises for you to do. It is important to assume that you may be pregnant at any time, and therefore not doing intensive abdominal work or exercises that strain your spine, especially lower-back. Absolutely no inversion postures are allowed, it would decrease success of IVF treatment and is contraindicated once pregnant.

With that in mind, however, it is still important to exercise and allow your body to maintain regular movement, and improving overall wellbeing.

I am also a qualified prenatal yoga teacher, so if you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact me.
